Why does this website exist?
The first version of buch@n was created in 1999 when David and Wendy were living in London. It was a simple way for them to share photos and news with their family and friends back in Australia. Since then the site has existed in various forms, finally settling into the form it has today. In 1988 David was an exchange student in Denmark. During that time he kept a diary which for many years he wanted to take from paper to digital form for two reasons. The first to have a copy of this important document and the second to be able to share it with others. The diary and existing website are now blended together and work progresses on completing them.
How is the site created?
There are more people behind buch@n than can be imagined. David is doing most of the typing and linking - the majority of what you see. All that exists on the contribution of many other software developers and others, who combined, have generated the tools that create the final product.
The software version page lists all the website software being used. Photos are managed in IMatch and then stored on Flickr once date, location and other information has been added.
