This is an entry relating to [[David]]'s [[Denmark 88]] diary.

Breakfast was at the ridiculous time of 7.30 am. Before I got this far I had to wait for a shower because there was only one male shower (how do you tell the difference?) in the whole building. Breakfast wasn't even enjoyable. The German bread roll was hard, tasteless and generally boring. To put it simply I was glad to leave Glückstadt.

Five minutes out of Glückstadt there is a canal called the ElnaElbe. To cross it you have to use a car ferry. That's what we did. Even so it took 20 minutes to cross. We sat there in the rain and mist (typical holiday weather) and listened to the radio.

The next point of interest was the German city of Bremen. There was a juggler out in the street and I still laughed at his jokes even though they were in German. The city square of Bremen was absolutely beautiful with a richly decorated Town Hall, a cathedral and also many other old buildings. Apparently a journalist was reporting a heads of government buildingmeeting in Bremen and every spare moment he had, he spent it in the city square thanking God that he didn't bomb it during the war as he was ordered to do otherwise.

Leaving Bremen we drove east in the direction of Holland. The weather had turned bad again and all the spray from the cars on the freeway (autobahn) didn't help much.

We arrived in Holland without any problems at all. We decided to have a break in a city called Groningen. The street was absolutely packed (about the same as Bourke Street Mall at lunch time) and it was 5 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon. It was incredible.

OeenkerkOldekerk is where Harriet and Jørgen stayed 30 years ago. By pure coincidence it is where we planned to stay. This time however we got a room to ourselves.
